The contribution deals with the theme of reading space and the characters that distinguish rural Mediterranean centers, through the study of the physical and perceptive relationship between natural elements and anthropic elements. In this sense, it is possible to define the ordered and reasoned evolution of urban systems arising from strong spontaneous pressures, or from settlement needs, according to precise biotic interactions and according to a resilient and adaptive approach. The survey on urban space thus configured focuses on the dialectic between designed order and informal disorder, assuming the relationship of the project with spontaneous phenomena as a prerequisite for its long-term environmental, social and economic sustainability. The research therefore investigates the physical-morphological evolution of two Municipalities of the upper Cilento – Trentinara and Capaccio-Paestum – through the formulation of the form and the semantic evolution of spatial images determined, also, by agricultural uses by land.
