Abstract

The paper fits within the field of advanced renewable energy solutions, focusing on the sub-topic “Material science and technologies” through an interdisciplinary approach that involves designers, architects, and engineers. The paper presents the results of the integrated data analysis regarding the research on energy storage systems and technologies and information on the use of renewable energy sources. It provides a comparative evaluation based on the performance and functional characteristics of the various systems. The main objective of the study was to explore new configurations for large-scale energy storage systems using eco-sustainable materials and ensuring flexibility of implementation in contexts with diversified characteristics. These aim to guide future design towards more efficient and effective solutions. Therefore, the paper highlights research opportunities and the progress of new technologies enabling the development of energy communities where citizens become lead actors and active participants in the ecological transition process.
