Abstract

The knowledge of the handcrafted know-how, of materials and historical techniques, for their technical compatibility in reference to the existing structures, is extremely important for the conservation intervention.
The workers training, the production of traditional materials and their expert use are as well very important subjects. Our handcrafted know-how should be considered a category of intangible heritage to be protected.
Looking back it is possible to find in the Manuale del Recupero del Comune di Roma, a methodological frame of reference to let the figures that have to work on historical buildings acquire the necessary knowledge.
In the meantime, it is possible to search the living witnesses of the building tradition still able to transfer their art to young generations. On this basis, the architect with his culture and sensitivity might carry out a high quality conservation project.
