Abstract

This work examines the urban regeneration case of the San Giovanni a Teduccio Technology Hub in Naples, one of the most sociologically significant interventions in recent decades, funded through various European programs. Infrastructure investments have partly improved quality of life, innovation, and employment in an area long marked by incompleteness and decay. We present field research on this project’s development in San Giovanni a Teduccio, now hosting the University of Naples “Federico II” Hub. While politicians and technicians praise it as a perfectly designed environment, our findings reveal that other stakeholders partially contest this view, criticizing the limited redevelopment of the area (Berritto, 2023). Though the Hub filled an urban void technologically, social voids persist, hindering its innovative potential and the district’s revival, trapping it in ongoing structural constraints (Corbisiero, Esposito, 2020). The study aims to understand whether constructing the Hub supports the district’s overall regeneration, offering the local community opportunities for social redemption and civil progress.
