Abstract

During the past decades, the holistic approach of health has gained many followers and changed a lot about healthcare facilities and the way they are handled. For the time being, this is expressed in many different ways including modern architecture for healthcare settings and the shift of interest for biophilic design. Especially in modern healthcare facilities for children, there is much attention given in the creation of therapeutic environment and the inclusion of natural elements in the healthcare buildings. The elements of greenery play a vital role in modern healthcare spaces for children because their main aim is to eliminate negative feelings, promote healing and help in for a more positive psychology of the hospitalized children. Green areas, green walls (living walls), healing gardens, natural views are creatively integrated into the main design of children’s healthcare building. In this paper, the important role of greenery in children’s healthcare facilities will be analyzed and the way it is integrated in the modern architectural design will explained through recently built examples from around the world.
