Abstract

Raw earth architecture is part of the identity and cultural expression of various territories and communities. This article explores the intersection between inclusion and social cohesion, housing policies and self-building programs, with particular attention to raw earth architecture in Italy and Colombia. Despite being countries located in different geographical and cultural realities, the selfconstruction practices that use this material, in Italy and Colombia, show similar characteristics rooted in the research to contribute to the ecological transition, the preservation of traditions and social innovation. This article presents some significant self-building experiences associated with earthen architecture in these countries managed through social participation, local resources, and appropriate technologies. The study argues that, despite epistemological, technological, and cultural variations, self-construction offers the opportunity to re-signify the use of land as a building material, contributing to the resolution of local ecological and social issues.
