Abstract

The period from 1840 to 1870 is characterized by the industrial revolution and an enormous technological explosion. The invention and use of photography, the telegraph are only a few from the inventions and discoveries of that era. In architecture, the belief that only the new construction technologies, will achieve dynamic creation of space, that will reflect the sensitivity and pace of modern society, became more and more intense. Architects and engineers have begun to seek common points between the construction science and the evolution of architectural styles.
The new materials, iron and steel, are closely linked to the evolution of architecture, from the industrial revolution to the present. This study examines the above two-way relationship between steel and architectural constructions using examples of specific features. It is a fact, the innovation of new materials in the era of the industrial revolution have created new forms and trends in the architectural works.
