By adopting an investigation method that opens to multidisciplinary work with the creation of interoperable objects, this contribution discusses the survey of the Solimene ceramic factory, a listed building, today, to the hearth of the debates on the restoration of the modern. The topographical precision ensured by the total station Trimble Vision S6 has allowed to measure hundreds of points directly on the façade at the designated height.
Focusing our considerations on the points detected only for one “tower” of that beautiful front, we have studied its geometric genesis with a vector graphic software, obtaining an analytically verified geometric model. A finite element simulation illustrated the spatial configuration derived from the cylinder-glass wall intersection. The “form” conflicts have clearly appeared, resolved during the building construction. This study, far from being a curiosity of descriptive geometry, justifies the narrowing that makes the profiles irregular, posing static and structural questions.
