Sustainable Mediterranean Construction
Many studies explored thermal comfort in several climate zones and urban environments since it can influence the quality of life and urban spaces’ use. This study proposes to assess thermal comfort by combining two software RayMand and Envi-met, in the Mediterranean climate (Csa). Thermal comfort is evaluated by the Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) and validated in Annaba, Algeria, characterized by Csa, within Heating Degree Days (HDD=1200-1800), Cooling Degree Days (CDD=1100-1700). Four outdoor spaces (2 Courts and 2 squares) have been evaluated in summer 2017. Every urban area was divided into greed (4m*4m), including measurement points. The results showed a strong correlation between air temperature T(a) and PET. The trees cooling effect contributes to improving thermal comfort, especially during the hot hours of the day. The differences in T(a) reached 4°C and 3°C for Mean radiant temperature (Tmrt) at noon, considered one of the day’s hottest hours.
