Sustainable Mediterranean Construction
The aim of this research is the redevelopment of the ancient Kimisis Tis Theotokoy monastery with a new function which, while respecting the original intended use, is able to guarantee adequate sustenance for the small monastic community living there.
The new function will have to ensure the health and well-being of the monastery’s users, taking into account the current epidemic affecting the world. This relationship is consistent with the goals of Meta 2030 both for good health and well-being and for the realization of a sustainable monastic community.
Fundamental to any redevelopment of an ancient building is the complete knowledge of all the aspects that characterize and make the building unique. The goal to be pursued is “to create, as Fulvio Tessitore Magnifico Rector of Federico II from 1993 to 2001 stated, an alliance between history and technology, demonstrating how the former serves the latter to gain awareness of its own usefulness […], and the second almost expresses the effectiveness, that is the usefulness, and actuality of the first which is not only a legacy of past memories, but a lived and therefore living life “
