Abstract

This study is aimed to understand the mechanical behavior of stone materials, particularly used in traditional Italian architecture. In particular, the research uses theno-tension resistant model (NTR), for which the tensor σ must be half-defined negative. In order to verify a simply supperted NTR panel, as in architraves, several Authors use a parabolic thrust line, using the arc behavior; but, how already noted, this solution does not consider the panel partialization, due to the crack presence, which interrupt continuity and restore the body congruence. This research represents the evolution of a previous study that allowed to determine the first three curves that support the weight of the panel. Now, thanks to a numerical approach that continues to have a generality character, the ‘family’ of thrust lines as been extended, and several cases were analyzed for this particular load problem.
