Abstract

The Kasbah of Mehdiya is a historical site located in kenitra’s city on the gharb plain in Morocco. During its long history, this Kasbah has seen the construction of several buildings. The most famous of them is Dar El Makhzen. This latter monument is threatened by accelerated deterioration due to its position on a hill overlooking the Sebou River and the Atlantic Ocean. A strategy to preserving this heritage by restoration is essential to guarantee its sustainability and energetic efficiency. For this reason, a diagnosis was made. It revealed that the main materials deteriorated in this edifice are calcarenite stone, rammed earth, baked clay bricks and lime mortar. This damage is due to hydroclimatic and anthropogenic factors affecting the physical, mechanical and thermal characteristics of these materials. The aim of this work is to study the impact of this degradation factors on the thermal performance and durability of Dar El Makhzen. The study begins with a diagnosis of the state of the site by the inventory of the distinct pathologies, the analysis of deteriorations mechanism, and finally the identification of restoration methods that can be used to enhance this edifice.
